Frequently Asked Questions - Publications

Publications System is the Industrial Centre content management system dedicated to online collaboration of intellectual properties publication. The purposes are to manage the knowledge works of a variety of disciplines and to demonstrate strengths of the Industrial Centre.

Q1 What IC Publications mean?
  For the IC Publications System, Publications means Paper, Book, Patent and Powerpoint.
Q2 What Paper means?
  Papers include those published in journals, proceedings of conferences and periodicals. According to the nature of IC, Working Papers represent a meaningful report for a definitive task or job of a project or consultancy.
Q3 What Book means?
  Books include those published by book publishers, by IC, or by PolyU. Training manuals, other than handouts, are considered books published by IC.
Q4 What are the file formats that are supported by the System?
  Only Microsoft Word (doc), Powerpoint (ppt) and Adobe portable document file (pdf) are supported.
Q5 Is there any standard file 'template' that I need to use for my file?
  No, there is no such template.
Q6 Is there any limit for the number of pages in each file?
  No, but the file size is limited to 20 M.
Q7 Do I have to submit the full content of the publication?
  The answer is yes and no. An information sheet will indicate the copyright of your publication belongs to the specified publish source, such as a book publisher, or a conference organizer. In case you can not submit the full content of your publication, please provide major abstract and contact information in your file.
Q8 Who is the administrator of the System?
  A General Office staff and the System Support Team are the administrators of the System.
Q9 If I submit a publication, can I later delete it?
  You can delete it, but the administrator can undo you deletion if neccessary.
Q10 If I am not one of the authors of the publication, can I still submit on behalf of the author(s)?
  Yes, but after you inform the System Support Team (2766 7596) to create your account if it is not yet ready.
Q11 If I am not the one who has already submitted a publication, but I am an author of it, can I maintain the publication?
  No, but you can request the administrator to do for you.
Q12 If I am one of the authors of the publication, how do I know other authors had not submitted the same publication to the System?
  Please check whether the publication is already inside the System first. You can search the title of the publication with the System, if the publication is not found, you can be sure to submit the publication without duplication.
Q13 Can my co-author outside IC submit the publication?
  No, only registered IC Staff can.
Q14 Does the System support me to invite my colleagues and friends to rate and write a review for my publication?
  Yes, while you are maintaining your publication with the System, you can give the email address of your friend and the System will send invitation email to your friend.
Q15 Does the review or rating submitted by the readers automatically show along with my publication? Can I preview the rating and review first?
  You can preview the rating and review first before you approve the System to show them.
Q16 If the reader links my publication to their web site, Does the link information submitted by the reader automatically show along with my publication? Can I preview the link first?
  You can not control the reader not to link your publication, but you can preview the link before you approve the System to show the link.
Q17 If I had approved to show the link, or the review and rating for my publication, can I disapprove again?
  Yes, you can.
Q18 Some of my colleagues or friends are my frequent co-authors, can I personalize my author list?
  Yes, the System will let you create your own author list before you submit your publication.
