Industrial Engineering & Projects Services
Industrial Engineering & Projects Unit
The
Industrial Engineering & Projects Unit, previously known as
IPU was established to coordinate projects originating from industry.
It also provides advisory and manufacturing support services for
staff and students related to applying research and development.
A
quasi-commercial approach is adopted. Costing is governed by prevailing
Polytechnic University regulations with preferential treatment extended
to non-profit making organisations. The major criterion for project
selection is the training value to students.
One
example is the design and construction of playground facilities
for charitable organisations who are only required to contribute
the direct costs.
The
other example is the design and manufacture of rehabilitation aids
(rehabaids) for the disabled.
Participating
in the various processes of design and production, students are
given the opportunity to acquire REAL WORK experience. They welcome
and are impressed by such exposure. Very often, it is their first
experience of this kind and occupies a permanent place in their
memories.
